• • • <br />• Hard~..in~ of Juvenile Offenders <br />State law is very strict ors the subject of police handling of <br />juvenile offenders, and in particular, juvenile offenders are <br />not to placed in regular jail cells, nor may they be mixed <br />wit: adult prisoners. <br />If within four to six hours after incarceration at the police <br />station, a juvenile offender has not been picked up by 'ris <br />parents, guardians or any reputable person with family ties or <br />relationships, or if definite arrangements have not been made <br />by them to pick him up s'.^~ortly thereafter, the juvenile shall <br />be transferred by the Police Department to the Harris County <br />Juvenile Detention Hall. <br />Payment of Fines <br />The police dispatchers have been appointed as Deputy Court <br />Clerks ar~d authorized to accept bonds. However, in rlo event, <br />may a fine be paid to .them, or to any police officer. All <br />fines are to be paid. directly to the Court Clerk. <br />• Jail Census <br />The Police Department shall make a jail census each day at <br />8:00 A.M., and shall turn the same ir. to the Court Clerk by <br />q:00 .AN. each day. <br />The jail census shall contain the following information: <br />(1) Name of prisoner <br />(2) Age of prisoner <br />(3) Sex of prisoner <br />(4) Offense charged <br />(5) Address of prisoner <br />(6) Date and time prisoner was arrested. <br />1.11 Prisoners <br />• Any prisoner who appears to be, or compalins of being ill, shall <br />be examined by a physician. If further treatment is indicated, <br />the prisoner shall be removed to the jail ward at Ben Taub Hospital. <br />
