• • <br />• Special Meeting 9/8/75 <br />2. DISCUSS MEXICAN CARAVAN - Messrs. Carlos Miller and <br />Luis Montiel were recognized. Mr. Montiel addressed <br />the Commission regarding the group of now, 87 Mexican <br />people expected from CD. Valles, S.L.P., Mexico, in <br />regard to the International Sister City Program. <br />Mr. Montiel informed the Commission that the purpose <br />of this visit was for friendship and to visit the <br />City of La Porte and its officials. Mr. Montiel will <br />be going to Mexico on September 11, 1975, and expressed <br />the desire to have an official accompany him on the trip <br />as a representative of the City of La Porte. <br />There was a brief discussion regarding lodging for the <br />visitors. It was determined that the Mexican City <br />Officials would be guests in the homes of the La Porte <br />City Officials and the remaining visitors would either <br />be accommodated by Mrs. Bertha Cook, and her motel and <br />accommodations at a NASA motel. <br />2 <br />MR. BILL HAIFLICH - ROTARY CLUB - extended an invitation <br />to the Mexican City Officials to attend the regular noon <br />• luncheon meeting of the Rotary Club. For the visitors <br />of high school age, Mr. Haiflich suggested a visit with <br />Interact at the high school. There was a brief discussion <br />regarding a desire to possibly fly doctors and dentists <br />down for a medical clinic as Rotary International. <br />FLAGS - There was some discussion regarding flags for the <br />group. It was determined that Mr. Perry Carter had flags <br />he would contribute to take, if someone from La Porte <br />went to Mexico at this time. It was suggested that the <br />Director of Finance check with State Representative <br />Ed Watson to get a Texas Flag that had been flown over <br />the Capitol. <br />RECEPTION - The Chamber of Commerce was not represented, <br />but had previously committed to host a reception for the <br />visitors. <br />MR. HUGH PFEIFFER - LIONS CLUB - offered to take two <br />families, and further stated that the Lions Club would <br />be proud to participate in anything that the City might <br />decide to host. <br />It was determined that there would be a definite need for <br />transportation and donations for different activities that <br />• will be planned for the visitors. <br />
