CONSIDER APPROVING PROPOSED ORDINANCE NO. 1159 - ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING THE ALLEY IN BLOCK 1107 - After the proposed ordinance was read in full, motion by Com- missioner Cline, seconded by Commissioner Simons to approve Ordinance No. 1159 as read. Motion carried by the following vote: AYES: Commissioners Tomerlin, Kibodeaux, Cline, and Simons. NAYS: None. CAPTION: AN ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING ALL OF THE ALLEY IN BLOCK ELEVEN HUNDRED SEVEN (1107), IN THE TOWN OF LA FORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS. + + + 7. CONSIDER APPROVING_PROPOSED ORDINANCE NO. 1160 - ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONTNG.AND CLOSING THE PORTION OF SOUTH SECOND STREET LYING BETWEEN FAIRMONT PARKWAY AND WEST "K" STREET • BETWEEN BLOCK 1107 AND BLOCK 1108, TOWN OF LA FORTE - Mr. J. E. Cook, 1515 S. 2nd Street was recognized and addressed the Commission requesting that the portion of South Second Street between Fairmont Parkway and West "K" Street not be closed. He felt that it would create a hardship on him and would devalue his property. Mayor Meza asked if the Commission would like to respond to Mr. Cooks objections? Commissioner Tomerlin felt that the by closing that portion of Second Street, allowing for further development, would enhance Mr. Cook's property, not devalue it. Commissioner Cline reminded Mr. Cook that the Commission was only considering the closing of Second Street between Fairmont Parkway and West "K", only one block; and perhaps at a later time open "K" Street. Mr. Cook felt that the more ingress and egress there was to his property, the better it would be if it were developed into apart- ments. Commissioner Cline felt that because of the commercial development that that portion of Second Street might never be opened by the City. •
