CONSIDER APPROVING PROPOSED ORDINANCE N0. 1I60 - ORDINANCE <br />.VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING THE PORTION OF SOUTH SECOND <br />STREET LYING BETWEEN FAIRMONT PARKWAY AND WEST "K" STREET <br />(BETWEEN BLOCK 1107 AND BLOCK 1108, TOWN DF LA PORTE - CONTINUED <br />Commissioner Tomerlin mentioned his concern in regard to our <br />Planning and Zoning Study they felt that La Porte had too many <br />streets; new development has longer blocks; further stating that <br />Mr. Cook might wish to close all of Second Street and buy it for <br />apartments, and have all the additional land. <br />Mr. Cook stated that he was not informed of the meeting in <br />time to talk with the officials prior to this meeting. Mayor <br />Meza stated that Mr. Cook's letter of opposition was read at the <br />last work shop. <br />Mr. Cook stated that he had owned his property over twenty years <br />and asked that the Commission consider what they felt would be <br />best for the majority. <br />r 1 <br />U <br />Commissioner Simons felt that the closing of that portion of <br />South Second Street would be beneficial if an apartment complex <br />was built on Mr. Cook's property. <br />Commissioner Tomerlin stated that he felt that it was in the <br />best interest to close that portion of South Second Street lying <br />between Fairmont Parkway and West "K" Street. <br />After the proposed ordinance was read in full, motion by Com- <br />missioner Tomerlin, seconded by Commissioner Kibodeaux to approve <br />Ordinance No. 1160 as read. Motion carried by the following vote: <br />AYES: Commissioners Tomerlin, Kibodeaux, Cline, and Simons. <br />NAYS: None. <br />CAPTION: AN ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING THE <br />PORTION OF SOUTH SECOND STREET LYING WITHIN THE AREA BOUNDED <br />BY THE SOUTH RIGI~T-OF-WAY LINE OF WEST "J" STREET (NOW KNOWN AS <br />WEST FATRMONT PARKWAY) AND THE NORTH RIGHT-OF-WAY LINE OF WEST <br />"K" STREET, AND BETWEEN BLOCK ELEVEN HUNDRED SEVEN (1107) AND <br />BLOCK ELEVEN HUNDRED EIGHT(1108), IN THE TOWN OF LA PORTE, <br />HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />+ + + <br />• <br />
