• <br />• Minutes, Joint Public <br />La Porte City Council <br />January 20, 1982, Page <br />• <br />Hearing and Regular Meeting <br />4 <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Malone to approve the minutes <br />as presented. Seconded by Councilperson Tn7estergren. The <br />motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Malone, Longley, Faris, Simons, Gay, <br />Skelton, Westergren and Mayor Meza <br />Nays: None <br />4. The City Council at this time canvassed the returns from the <br />January 16, 1982, Special Called Election to fill a vacancy <br />in Position A - Councilperson-at-Large, to serve through <br />April 3, 1982, and the La Porte Area Water Authority. Returns <br />were presented to Mayor Meza who opened each set of returns <br />and read publicly the number of votes cast in each of the six <br />(6) voting districts and absentee voting returns. Returns <br />were then passed to each Councilperson to canvass and review. <br />After review, Council declared the returns in order and asked <br />the City Attorney to read the Ordinance declaring the results <br />of the election. <br />• 5. City Attorney Askins read; AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THE RESULTS <br />OF THE SPECIAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE ON JANUARY <br />16, 1982, TO FILL THE VACANCY IN THE OFFICE OF COUNCILPERSON- <br />AT-LARGE - POSITION A. <br />Douglas Latimer- 264 votes <br />Al Pena - 79 votes <br />Ruth Kibodeaux - 285 votes <br />A motion was made by Councilperson Longley to pass and approve <br />Ordinance No. 1294 as read by the City Attorney. Seconded by <br />Councilperson Skelton. The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Malone, Longley, Faris, Simons, Gay, <br />Skelton, Westergren and Mayor Meza <br />Nays: None <br />6. City Attorney Askins read: AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THE RESULTS <br />OF THE ELECTION ON THE QUESTION OF THE CREATION OF THE LA PORTE <br />AREA WATER AUTHORITY, HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF LA PORTE, AND <br />WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE PROPOSED LA PO RTE AREA WATER <br />AUTHORITY, ON JANUARY 16, 1982. <br />A motion was made by Councilperson Gay to pass and approve <br />Ordinance No. 1295 as read by the City Attorney. Seconded by <br />• Councilperson Westergren. T e motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 <br />nays. <br />
