City Attorney Askins read: AN ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING THAT PORTION OF SOUTH 9TH STREET; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. A motion was made by Councilperson Simons to pass and approve Ordinance No. 1296 as read by the City Attorney, closing a portion of South 9th Street for Bayshore National Bank. Seconded by Councilperson Gay. The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. Ayes: Councilpersons Malone, Longley, Faris, Simons, Gay, Skelton, Westergren and Mayor Meza Nays: None 8. At this time Council heard the recommendations of Planning • and Zoning concerning the rezoning of that certain parcel of land described as a 10-acre tract of land bounded by State Highway 225 and State Highway 146 on the North and East, and bounded by Strang Road on the West, and bounded by the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks on the South. City Attorney Askins read: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 780, THE CITY OF LA PORTE ZONING ORDINANCE, BY CHANGING THE CLASSIFICATION OF THAT CERTAIN PARCEL OF LAND HEREIN DESCRIBED; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. A motion was made by Councilperson Simons to pass and approve Ordinance No. 780 VW as read by the City Attorney rezoning from Commercial to Industrial the 10-acre tract of land owned by Bruce Angel with a Special Use Permit. Seconded by Council- person Malone. Faris: Mr. Mayor, may I make a statement? Mrs. Muston, is it correct that the overall zoning program that P & Z has been working on dedicates all the north side of Barbour's Cut Boule- vard for this type of usage? Muston: We haven't made our final recommendation on the placing of the different classifications. Faris: Is that the area generally being discussed by P & Z • for this type of operation? Muston: Yes.
