I appreciate your concern for <br />your City and the time you have dedicated. to this community. <br />Longley: Mr. Mayor, I also want to express my appreciation <br />for your guidance and help this past year and for all the <br />things you have done for La Porte. You certainly will be <br />missed. <br />Matuszak: Mr. Mayor, T would like to thank you for the many, <br />many hours you have given this City and the citizens. T am <br />sure they will be remembered for a long, long time. I person- <br />ally want to thank you for the many courteseys you have given <br />me as a citizen when I have appeared before this Council. I <br />wish you the best of luck. <br />Graves: I would like to thank you and reflect back on the <br />time when I was employed with the City. I look at you as a <br />boss. I appreciate you and all you have done. <br />• Mayor Meza asked that Virginia Cline come forward to receive <br />the oath of office of Mayor of the City of La Porte and John <br />D. Carr Longley as Councilperson District 2. The oath was <br />administered by Judge Jon Lindsay. <br />Mayor Cline and Councilperson Longley were seated at the <br />Council table. <br />Mayor Cline presented a certificate of appreciation to <br />J. J. Meza for service to the City of La Porte. <br />Mayor Cline made the following statement: <br />I am extremely proud to have the opportunity to serve you. <br />My deepest appreciation and heartfelt thanks go out to each <br />and every one who voted for me. You have demonstrated the <br />democratic process wherein lies the strength of this great <br />nation. Democracy starts with each of you and prevails as a <br />privilege to enjoy freedom as we know it. The wars of politics <br />are now over for us for awhile, and it's time to forget polit- <br />ical rhetoric and statements to sway the voters. We must now <br />join together and strive in harmony and cooperation with each <br />other and to regulate our affairs to benefit the people of <br />La Porte. I hope, above all else, to keep your desires fore- <br />most in my endeavors and to attempt to satisfy the majority <br />most of the time. Let us join together in unity and work to <br />• improve our City, provide the best possible services to our <br />citizens and cooperate fully with each other to make these <br />goals possible. I shall cherish always your support in my <br />
