The meeting was called to order by Mayor Cline at 7:00 P.M. <br />Members of the Cit Council Present: Mayor Virginia Cline, <br />Councilpersons Norman Malone, Jo n Longley, Edward Matuszak, <br />Kevin Graves, B. Don Skelton, Linda Westergren <br />Members of the City Council Absent: Lindsay Pfeiffer, Deotis <br />Gay <br />Members of the City Staff Present: City Manager Jack Owen, <br />City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Betty Waters, <br />Director of Public Works Jerry Hodge, Building Official <br />David Paulissen, Director of Administrative Services Bob Her- <br />rera, Graduate Engineer John Joerns <br />Others Present: Frieda Beaty, Baytown Sun; Barbara Neal, <br />La Porte Broadcaster; Jeff Patterson, Southeast Weekly; <br />Melissa Lestarjette, Bayshore Sun; 9 citizens <br />2. The invocation was given by City Attorney Askins. <br />3. The Council considered the minutes of the Regular Meeting of <br />the La Porte City Council held February 2, 1983. A motion <br />was made by Councilperson Longley to accept the minutes as <br />presented. Secon~ounci person Matuszak. T e motion <br />carried, 6 ayes, 0 nays, and l abstain. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Longley, Matuszak, Graves, Skelton, <br />Westergren and Mayor Cline <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: Councilperson Malone due to his absence from the <br />February 2, 1983, meeting <br />4. Mayor Cline proclaimed the week of February 21 through 26 <br />as "Drug Awareness Week." <br />5. Mr. Tony Gonzales appeared before Council to~request a vari- <br />ante at 518 South Utah to construct a carport. After review <br />of the zoning ordinance, it was determined by the City Council <br />that the official zoning ordinance of the City of La Porte <br />does not allow for a variance to permit a carport which <br />encroaches into the front building set back. <br />
