Members of the Cit Council Present: Mayor Virginia Cline, Councilpersons Norman Malone, Jo n Longley, Edward Matuszak, Kevin Graves, B. Don Skelton, Linda Westergren Members of the City Council Absent: Lindsay Pfeiffer, Deotis Gay Members of the City Staff Present: City Manager Jack Owen, City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Betty Waters, Director of Public Works Jerry Hodge, Building Official David Paulissen, Director of Administrative Services Bob Her- rera, Graduate Engineer John Joerns Others Present: Frieda Beaty, Baytown Sun; Barbara Neal, La Porte Broadcaster; Jeff Patterson, Southeast Weekly; Melissa Lestarjette, Bayshore Sun; 9 citizens 2. The invocation was given by City Attorney Askins. 3. The Council considered the minutes of the Regular Meeting of the La Porte City Council held February 2, 1983. A motion was made by Councilperson Longley to accept the minutes as presented. Secon~ounci person Matuszak. T e motion carried, 6 ayes, 0 nays, and l abstain. Ayes: Councilpersons Longley, Matuszak, Graves, Skelton, Westergren and Mayor Cline Nays: None Abstain: Councilperson Malone due to his absence from the February 2, 1983, meeting 4. Mayor Cline proclaimed the week of February 21 through 26 as "Drug Awareness Week." 5. Mr. Tony Gonzales appeared before Council to~request a vari- ante at 518 South Utah to construct a carport. After review of the zoning ordinance, it was determined by the City Council that the official zoning ordinance of the City of La Porte does not allow for a variance to permit a carport which encroaches into the front building set back.
