Council considered approving a letter accepting Mobil's
proposal for experimental use of phospogypsum street base,
subject to receiving proper permits.
Motion was made by Councilperson Malone to authorize the
City Manager to send a letter to Mobil accepting their pro-
posal for experimental use of p ospogypsum street ase,
subject to receiving proper permits. Second y~uncilperson
Graves. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays.
Ayes: Councilpersons Malone, Longley, Matuszak, Graves,
Pfeiffer, Gay, Skelton, Westergren and Mayor Cline
Nays: None
13. Administrative Reports:
City Manager Owen reported that one of the streets under the
McKey street paving contract, Fieldcrest Lane, has 8 different
stands of pine trees, located almost in the center of the right
of"way of the street. The trees cannot be left and pave the
street in the center. To shift the street over, the trees
would be a hazard and open the City to considerable liability.
Three alternatives to solving the problem are: (1) put in
24' width with trees being there, (2) Narrow the street and
slide it south of the right of way, (3) Cut the trees.
After Council discussion, it was moved by Councilperson Pfeiffer
to remove the trees. Second by Councilperson Malone. The mo-
tion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays.
Ayes: Councilpersons Malone, Longley, Matuszak, Graves,
Pfeiffer, Gay, Skelton, Westergren and Mayor Cline
Nays: None
Mr. Owen announced the City Staff is building a float for the
Sylvan Beach parade and the Council is invited to ride on it.
The theme for the float is "Cops & Robbers" and volunteers
from Council are needed to be either cops or robbers. Council-
persons Matuszak, Gay, Skelton and Malone volunteered to be
"cops", and robbers will be Councilpersons Longley, Graves,
and Mayor Cline.
Mr. Owen reported that. La Porte's share of the City auction
was $22,926.50, and the total for the four cities involved
was $53,438.50.
• Mr. Owen asked for an executive session on a legal matter.
