Council considered a hotel occupancy tax. <br />City Attorney Askins read: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF <br />LA PORTE, TEXAS, ADDING CHAPTER 121/4 TO THE CODE OF <br />ORDINANCES, ENTITLED "HOTEL OCCUPANCY TAX"; PROVIDING <br />FOR THE LEVY AND COLLECTION OF A HOTEL OCCUPANCY TAX; <br />PROVIDING FOR EXEMPTION; PROVIDING FOR REPORTS; P_ROVTDTNG <br />FOR RULES AND REGULATIONS BY THE TAX COLLECTOR; PROVIDING <br />FOR A PENALTY; PROVIDING A SEVERABTLITY CLAUSE; AND PRO- <br />VIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE <br />Motion <br />made <br />approve execution of a contract with La Porte Bayshore <br />Chamber of Commerce. Second by Councilperson Skelton. <br />The motion carried, 7 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Pfeiffer, Gay, Skelton, Malone, <br />Longley, Matuszak and Mayor Cline <br />Nays: None <br />• <br />10. Administrative Reports <br />Mr. Owen thanked Council for their wonderful support of the <br />staff and employees during the hurricane. We-are very thank- <br />ful for it. <br />Reminded Council of budget workshop sessions starting Monday, <br />August 29, at 5:30 P.M. <br />Requested an executive session on a contractual matter con- <br />cerning the ambulance corps. <br />• <br />11. Council Action <br />Pfeiffer: Appreciates the staff <br />their great performance during t <br />that. was put forth, and feels it <br />through the critical hours. We will <br />probably catch the blunt of percussions because they don't have <br />services, but I hope the citizens will bear with us. I thank <br />the employees again, and also thank the Council for working <br />with them and giving them permission to go about their business. <br />Would like a thank you letter written to Texas Baptist Men for <br />their food service they set up. <br />
