City Attorney Askins read: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, ADDING CHAPTER 121/4 TO THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, ENTITLED "HOTEL OCCUPANCY TAX"; PROVIDING FOR THE LEVY AND COLLECTION OF A HOTEL OCCUPANCY TAX; PROVIDING FOR EXEMPTION; PROVIDING FOR REPORTS; P_ROVTDTNG FOR RULES AND REGULATIONS BY THE TAX COLLECTOR; PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY; PROVIDING A SEVERABTLITY CLAUSE; AND PRO- VIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE Motion made approve execution of a contract with La Porte Bayshore Chamber of Commerce. Second by Councilperson Skelton. The motion carried, 7 ayes and 0 nays. Ayes: Councilpersons Pfeiffer, Gay, Skelton, Malone, Longley, Matuszak and Mayor Cline Nays: None • 10. Administrative Reports Mr. Owen thanked Council for their wonderful support of the staff and employees during the hurricane. We-are very thank- ful for it. Reminded Council of budget workshop sessions starting Monday, August 29, at 5:30 P.M. Requested an executive session on a contractual matter con- cerning the ambulance corps. • 11. Council Action Pfeiffer: Appreciates the staff their great performance during t that. was put forth, and feels it through the critical hours. But with them during the final clean months to get back to normal. and employees of the City for he storm and all of the effort helped all the citizens get now if the citizens will bear up - it will take several Gay_: Would also like to thank the staff for the work they did, the employees of the City in working to try to get us back to normal once again. Is in accord with Mr. Pfeiffer - it's going to take us a month or so to get back to normal. We will probably catch the blunt of percussions because they don't have services, but I hope the citizens will bear with us. I thank the employees again, and also thank the Council for working with them and giving them permission to go about their business. Would like a thank you letter written to Texas Baptist Men for their food service they set up.
