Council considered approving a contract to retain Hugh Landrum <br />as the City of La Porte's tax assessor. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Pfeiffer to approve the con- <br />tract to retain Hugh Landrum`as the City's tax assessor. Sec- <br />ond by Councilperson Graves. <br />A motion was made by Councilperson Longley to amend. the motion <br />and make the contract for one year rather than three years. <br />Second by Councilperson Westergren:. <br />After discussion, Councilperson Longley rephrased his amended <br />motion to read "a three-year contract with an annual December <br />1, 30-day notice, option to cancel". <br />The amended motion carried, 6 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Longley, Graves, Pfeiffer, Skelton, <br />Westergren and Mayor Cline <br />Nays: None <br />• The original motion carried, 6 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Longley, Graves, Pfeiffer, Skelton, <br />Westergren and Mayor Cline <br />Nays: None <br />5. .Council considered accepting-the proposed compliance schedule <br />on sewer service for College View Municipal Utility: District. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Westergren to accept the_com- <br />pliance schedule for sewer service for College View Municipal <br />Utility District. Second by Councilperson Longley. The motion <br />carried, 6 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Longley, Graves, Pfeiffer, Skelton, <br />Westergren and Mayor Cline <br />Nays: None <br />6. Council considered an ordinance updating the Smoke Detector <br />Ordinance. <br />City Attorney Askins read: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE 1982 <br />EDITION OF THE STANDARD BUILDING CODE,. OR CURRENTLY ENFORCED <br />BUILDING CODE, AS AMENDED, AND ALSO KNOWN AS THE BUILDING <br />CODE OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE; BY AMENDING SECTION 1125, SMOKE <br />DETECTOR SYSTEMS, REQUIRING AND REGULATING SMOKE-DETECTORS; <br />• PROVIDING A SEVERABILiTY CLAUSE; PROVIDING THAT ANY PERSON <br />VIOLATING THE TERMS OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE FINED IN ANY <br />SUM NOT MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($200.00); CONTAINING A <br />REPEALING CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETING LAW; <br />
