Minutes, Public Hearing and Regular Meeting La Porte City Council December 19, 1984, Page 6 Dr. Clyde Smith arrived at this point and was asked to present his proposal for the Sesquicentennial. Dr. Smith reported on his activities regarding Sesquicentennial committee meetings and a trip to Austin that he had taken for a State wide leadership workshop. Dr. Smith asked that Council consider providing financial assistance in the amount of $5,000 to the La Porte Sesquicentennial Coorqinating Committee so that necessary expenditures can be made to assure that all goals of the La Porte Sesquicentennial master plan can be carried out. The funds would be used for promotional materials and other necessary purchases. It was the concensus of Council to put Dr. Smith's request on a workshop for discussion in order to see what kind of financial assistance could be given. . 13. The regular order of business was taken up and Council. considered awarding bids for garbage trucks. . Assistant Director of Public Works reviewed bids for two garbage trucks: one front loading commercial garbage truck and one rear loading residential garbage truck. Motion was made bv Councilnerson Skelton to award the bid for the front loadin~ commercial ~arba~e truck to the low bidder. ,Industrial Disnosal Suonlv in the amount of $112.~~5 and award the bid for the rear loadin~ residential ~arba~e truck to the low bidder meetin~ snecific~tions. Environmental Sales and Service. in the amount of $66,864. Second by Councilperson Pfeiffer. The motion carried~ 7 ayes and 0 nays. Ayes: Councilpersons Bridges, Matuszak, Waters, Pfeiffer, Skelton, Westergren and Malone Nays: None Councilperson Westergren announced that a two-minute break would be taken, after which time the public hearing would be held. . ~ ~
