<br /> <br />Minutes, Public Hearings and Regular Meeting <br />La Porte Cit Council <br />August 12, 1985, Page 2 <br />The Mayor declared the public hearing closed, and asked the <br />City Secretary to read the recommendation of the Planning and <br />Zoning Commission. The City Secretary read the <br />recommendation, which was to allow the duplex to be placed in <br />an R-2 zone. <br />4. The Mayor called the public hearing on the proposed use of <br />revenue sharing funds to order. The Mayor requested input <br />from the public regarding these proposed funds. <br />Mr. Buford Leonard, representing the Veterans of Foreign Wars, <br />requested approximately $1,500 in funds to purchase flags and <br />flagpoles for La Porte cemeteries. <br />Mr. John Paul Zemanek, representing the Chamber of Commerce, <br />requested $20,000 for a controlled fund to be used to attract <br />bigger and better industries and businesses to the La Porte <br />area. <br />Councilperson Gay, acting at the request of the La Porte <br />Community Civic Club, requested funds to purchase land across <br />the street from the North Broadway baseball field in order to <br />place existing playground equipment there. He felt that this <br />would alleviate the problem of small children being injured <br />while playing on the equipment while a ball game was in <br />progress. The Community Civic Club also requested that a room <br />be added to the Jennie Riley Community Center in order that <br />banquets and similar activities could be held without having <br />to move equipment and such out of the main room of the Center. <br />A piano and a television set were also requested for the <br />Center. <br />There being no further input, the Mayor declared the public <br />hearing on revenue sharing funds closed. <br />5. Council considered approving the minutes of the regular <br />meeting held July 22, 1985. <br />Motion was_made by Councilperson Waters that the minutes of <br />the July 22 meeting be approved as presented. Second by <br />Councilperson Pfeiffer. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 <br />nays. <br />
