• • <br />RESOLUTION N0. 87-18 <br />A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTS <br />SUPPORTING AMENDMENT N0. 17 ON THE NOVEMBER 3, 1987, GENERAL <br />ELECTION BALLOT <br />WHEREAS, the Texas Legislature has passed and the Governor <br />has signed historic tort reform measures; and <br />WHEREAS, those tort reform measures are highly <br />advantageous for Texas cities and will provide a large measure <br />of predictability and stability with regard to municipal <br />liability; and <br />I~;HEREAS, one of those tort reform measures has caused the <br />following proposed Constitutional amendment to be placed on the <br />November 3, 1987, general election ballot: <br />"The constitutional amendment authorizing the <br />Legislature to define for all purposes the governmental <br />and proprietary functions of a municipality;" <br />and <br />WHEREAS, such amendment shall appear on the ballot as <br />Amendment No. 17; and <br />WHEREAS, the passage of Amendment No. 17 is needed to <br />ensure meaningful and lasting tort reform for Ter.as cities. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF LA PORTS <br />THAT the City Council of the City of La Porte supports the <br />passage of Amendment No. 17, and encourages other municipal <br />officials to also support this Amendment. <br />PASSED AND APPROVED this the 19th day of October, 1987. <br />CITY OF LA PORTS <br />N rman L.
