! ~ <br />RESOLUTION N0. 87-19 <br />A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTS <br />SUPPORTING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES ON THE NOVEMBER 3, <br />1987, GENERAL ELECTION BALLOT <br />WHEREAS, Texas cities actively supported economic <br />development measures during the last regular session of the <br />Texas legislature; and <br />WHEREAS, economic development programs are vital to the <br />continued fiscal health of Texas cities; and <br />WHEREAS, Amendment No. 4 on the November 3, 1987, general <br />election ballot will, if passed, authorize the legislature to <br />provide for programs and to make loans and grants of public <br />money to aid economic development in Texas; and <br />WHEREAS, Amendment fIo. 5 on the same ballot will, if <br />passed, authorize certain cities to aid the construction of <br />turnpikes, toll roads, and toll bridges by guaranteeing bonds <br />issued by the Texas Turnpike Authority; and <br />Z~'HEREAS, Amendment No. 6 on the ballot will, if .passed, <br />authorize the legislature to provide for state financing of the <br />development and production of Texas products and businesses; <br />and <br />Z,iHEREAS, Amendment P1o. 11 on the ballot will allow local <br />option property tax exemptions for inventory located <br />temporarily in the state; and <br />WHEREAS, Amendment No. 19 on the ballot will, if passed, <br />allow the legislature to authorize $500 million in general <br />obligation bonds to support the U.S. Department of Energy's <br />superconducting supercollider if it is sited in Texas; and <br />WHEREAS, these five amendments have great potential to <br />assist Texas cities in their economic development efforts. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF LA PORTS <br />THAT the City Council of the City of La Porte supports <br />passage of Amendments ~, 5, 6, 11, and 19. <br />PASSED AND APPROVED this the 19th day of October, 1987 <br />CITY OF LA PORTS <br />~~~ ~ <br />Norman L.
