• <br />Minutes, Called Meeting, La Porte City Council <br />October 19, 19$7, Page 4 <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton__that the tax rate <br />be set at 66 cents per $100 of valuation and that a public <br />hearing be set for November 2,. 18.7. Second by <br />Councilperson Shipp. The motion carried, 6 ayes and 0 <br />nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Porter, Shipp, Gay, Skelton, Clarke <br />and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />11. Administrative Reports: <br />A. Stan Sherwood introduced Tim O'Connor and David Pippin, <br />staff members of the Parks and Recreation Department. Mr. <br />O'Connor presented a brief history of the Texas Games and a <br />video made at the 1987 Texas Games was viewed by Council. <br />The 1989 Games will be partially hosted by the City of La <br />Porte, and help will be needed in many areas from staff and <br />Council, as well. as interested citizens. <br />B. In the absence of Chairman David Brady, member Dennis <br />Dunham of the Golf Course Advisory Board made a <br />presentation to Council on the naming of the golf course. <br />The name selected as winner in the contest to name the golf <br />course is La Porte's Bay Forest. Second place name was La <br />Porte Bayshore Golf Course, and third place name was 13-a-y ~~~.~"~, <br />If there is no conflict with this name being used <br />elsewhere in the area, La Porte's Bay Forest will be used. <br />C. City Manager Bob Herrera announced that there will be a <br />Houston International Business-Expo held at Astrohall on <br />October 22, from X4:00 to 9:00 P.M. The La Porte Bayshore <br />Chamber of Commerce and the City will join together for a <br />booth at the Expo. It is felt that this will be good <br />publicity for La Porte and what it has to offer. <br />Councilperson Skelton reported on the businesses that will <br />be represented and the type of booth that La Porte will <br />offer. Councilperson Porter said any volunteers to help <br />with the booth will be welcome. <br />12. Council Action: <br />Councilpersons Porter, Shipp, Gay, Skelton, Clar4ce and <br />Mayor Plalone brought items to Council's attention. <br />
