f <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF <br />LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />FEBRUARY 12, 1990 <br />1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Malone at 6:00 P.M. <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Norman Malone, <br />Councilpersons Betty Waters, Mike Cooper, Ed Matuszak, Bob <br />McLaughlin, Alton Porter, Deotis Gay, B. Don Skelton, Jerry <br />Clarke <br />Members of City Council Absent: None <br />Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Robert Herrera, <br />City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Cherie Black, <br />Assistant City Manager John Joerns, Police Chief Charles <br />Smith, Director of Community Development Joel Albrecht, <br />Purchasing Manager/Human Resources Manager Louis Rigby, <br />Director of Public Works Steve Gillett, Fire Marshal Paul <br />Hickenbottom, Fire Chief Joe Sease, Chief Building Official <br />Ervin Griffith, Inspector Mark Lewis, Director of Parks and <br />Recreation Stan Sherwood, Recreation Supervisor Tim O'Connor, <br />Assistant Fire Chief John Dunham, EMS Chief Chris Osten <br />Others Present: Dale Conger, Espey Huston; 37 citizens <br />2. The invocation was given by Councilperson Cooper. <br />3. Council considered approving the minutes of the regular <br />meeting of Council held January 22, 1990. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to approve the <br />minutes of January 22 as presented. Second by Councilperson <br />Porter. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Waters, Cooper, Matuszak, McLaughlin, <br />Porter, Gay, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />4. The Mayor gave special recognition and commendation to <br />Officers Jerome McKown and Ed Swenson, who saved the life of <br />a heart attack victim by performing CPR while the EMS was en <br />route. Also recognized was the EMS team who made the call. <br />EMS attendant Pat Underwood spoke to express the EMS' thanks <br />not only to the Police Department, but to the Fire Department <br />as well. She stated that they are always there when needed, <br />and go beyond the call of duty to be helpful to the EMS. <br />5. A representative from the Fraternal Order of Eagles presented <br />the Senior Citizens Program with a check for $600.00, and <br />
