Council considered ordinance 1751, closing 17th Street between <br />block 1175 and 1176, Town of La Porte. <br />The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE NO. 1751, AN ORDINANCE <br />VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING A PORTION OF SOUTH 17TH <br />STREET, IN THE TOWN OF LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS; FINDING <br />COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AND <br />EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Clarke to atiprove Ordinance <br />No. 1751 as read by the Citv Attorney. Second by <br />Councilperson Porter. (Councilperson Cooper was out of the <br />room during the vote.) The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Matuszak, McLaughlin, <br />Porter, Gay, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />12. Council considered approving refunds for overpayment of taxes <br />in excess of $500.00. <br />Director of Finance Jeff Litchfield addressed Council <br />regarding this item. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson McLaughlin to approve refunds <br />for overpayment of taxes in excess of 5500.00. Second by <br />Councilperson Clarke. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Matuszak, <br />McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor <br />Malone <br />Nays: None <br />13. council considered endorsement of proposed Harris County <br />Mayors' and Councils' Association resolution which opposed <br />Senate Bill 179. <br />City Manager Bob Herrera addressed Council regarding this <br />matter. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to endorse the <br />proposed Harris County Mayors' and Councils' Association <br />resolution which opposes Senate Bill 179. Second by <br />Councilperson Clarke.
