<br />Minutes, Regular Meeting, La Porte City Council <br />April 8, 1991, Page 2 <br />Ms. Frances Weiss and Ms. Charlcya Wheeler, representing the <br />San Jacinto Day Foundation, presented Council with strawberry <br />pies and VIP letters of entry to the annual Strawberry <br />Festival. <br />6. Council considered approving proposed changes to Ordinance <br />1644-A concerning fees, hours of operation, rentals, and proof <br />of residency for general admission at Little Cedar Bayou wave <br />pool; and fees and hours of operation at Fairmont Park pool. <br />Stan Sherwood, Director of Parks and Recreation, reviewed the <br />proposed changes for Council's benefit. Questions from <br />Council were answered by Mr. Sherwood. Councilperson Clarke <br />recommended that, since the Desert Storm personnel will be <br />here through August to oversee return of equipment, that a <br />special discount be given to these servicepeople for use of <br />the wave pool while they are here. Captain Mike Chrisler was <br />introduced and gave a brief summary of the personnel that <br />might be expected to be here from now until August. <br />Motion was made b~ Councilperson Skelton to adopt Ordinance <br />1644-B and have staff look into the possibility of reduced <br />rates for Desert Storm servicepeople in our city and brinct it <br />back to the next Council meetintt. Second by Councilperson <br />Matuszak. <br />Motion was made b~ Councilperson Porter to amend the ordinance <br />to offer the same discount to the militarv as is offered to <br />senior citizens. Second by Councilperson Sutherland. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Matuszak to amend the <br />amendment and reduce the rate for the militarv to 51.00. <br />Second by Councilperson Clarke. <br />The vote was taken on the second amendment and the motion <br />passed, 4 ayes and 3 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Matuszak, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor <br />Malone <br />Nays: Councilpersons Sutherland, McLaughlin and Porter <br />The vote was taken on the first amendment and the motion <br />failed, 2 ayes, 3 nays and 1 abstain. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Porter and Sutherland <br />Nays: Councilpersons Matuszak, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor <br />Malone <br />Abstain: Councilperson McLaughlin <br />
