Councilperson Sutherland indicated he would like to see the wording regarding children 4 years of age and younger changed to "4 years and under accompanied by an adult." Motion was made by Councilperson McLaughlin to table this ordinance until everyone really knew what they were talking about. The motion died for lack of a second. The original motion was voted, and the Ordinance was adopted as amended, 4 ayes and 3 nays. Ayes: Councilpersons Matuszak, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone Nays: Councilpersons Sutherland, McLaughlin and Porter 7. Council considered an ordinance closing a 16-foot alley in Block 1141, Town of La Porte. The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1752 - AN ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING THE 16-FOOT ALLEY IN BLOCK 1141, TOWN OF LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. Motion was made by Councilperson Sutherland to adopt Ordinance 1752 as read by the City Attorney. Second by Councilperson McLaughlin. The motion carried, 7 ayes and 0 nays. Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Matuszak, McLaughlin, Porter, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone Nays: None 8. Council considered a resolution approving participation in the Telephone Franchise Steering Committee. The City Attorney read: RESOLUTION NO. 91-7 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, APPROVING PARTICIPATION IN THE TELEPHONE FRANCHISE STEERING COMMITTEE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to approve Resolution 91-7. Second by Councilperson Clarke. The motion carried, 7 ayes and 0 nays. Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Matuszak, McLaughlin, Porter, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone Nays: None
