Council considered a resolution approving continued participation in the Telephone Franchise Steering Committee and approving a one-time payment of one cent per capita. The City Attorney read: RESOLUTION 91-10 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, APPROVING CONTINUED PARTICIPATION IN THE TELEPHONE FRANCHISE STEERING COMMITTEE AND APPROVING A ONE-TIME PAYMENT OF ONE CENT PER CAPITA (.01) OR TWO HUNDRED SEVENTY-NINE DOLLARS AND TEN CENTS ($279.10); FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to approve Resolution 91-10 as read by the city Attorney. Second by Councilperson Thrower. The motion carried, 6 ayes and 0 nays (councilperson Cooper had left the Council table in order to deliver a copy of Resolution 91-09 to the office of Jim Fonteno). Nays: CouncilpersonsSutherland, Thrower, Porter, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Pro Tern McLaughlin None Ayes: 14. Council considered authorization to proceed on dangerous buildings. A video presentation was made by Inspector Mark Lewis, showing 17 buildings that had been deemed dangerous by the Inspection Committee. Motion was made by Councilperson Porter to authorize the Inspection Department to proceed on danqerous buildinqs and to' call a public hearinq on July 22 in this reqard. Second by Councilperson Thrower. The motion carried, 6 ayes and 0 nays. Nays: CouncilpersonsSutherland, Thrower, Porter, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Pro Tern McLaughlin None Ayes: 15. The item to consider approving a contract for engineering services from Bill Manning was removed from the agenda pending further clarification. 16. Council considered awarding a contract for reconstruction of curbs and sidewalks and construction of wheelchair ramps on Main Street between Broadway and Second Street.
