Workshop Item: Review proposed ordinance regulating garage <br />sales. <br />Building Official Ervin Griffith briefly outlined the <br />regulations in the ordinance. <br />Council discussed various aspects of the ordinance, i.e., <br />number of sales to be allowed per year; sales held by <br />charitable organizations/non profit agencies, etc. <br />13. Administrative Reports - The City Manager announced that Chief <br />Powell had received a letter from County Judge Jon Lindsay <br />stating that a public hearing would be held on February 10, <br />1992, at 2:00 P.M. in the Commissioners Courtroom, in <br />reference to an application for a wine and beer retailers <br />permit for Lomax Grocery and Food. There will also be a <br />representative from staff at that meeting. <br />14. Council Action - Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, <br />McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />brought items to Council's attention. <br />The Mayor asked Chief Powell to present City pins to the two <br />remaining Boy Scouts present. <br />15. Council adjourned into executive session at 7:54 P.M. to <br />address the following items: (A) Legal - Discuss contract <br />between the City of La Porte and Sewell and Riggs, Attorneys <br />at Law; (B) Land Acquisition - Receive report from the City <br />Manager and City Attorney regarding land acquisition. Council <br />returned to the table at 9:25 P.M. with no action having been <br />taken in executive session. <br />Council then addressed item 8, considering an ordinance <br />approving and authorizing a contract between the City of La <br />Porte and Sewell and Riggs, Attorneys at Law. This is <br />Ordinance 1807. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Sutherland to adopt Ordinance <br />1807. Second by Councilperson Porter. The motion carried, <br />8 ayes and 0 nays (Councilperson Clarke had left the meeting <br />at 9:25). <br />
