Special certificates of Appreciation were presented to J. T. <br />Wingo, Tammy Bittick and Tom Light, for their efforts in <br />rescuing Morgan's Point Mayor Russell Applebe and his son <br />Jason after their sail boat capsized in rough waters during a <br />squall. Mayor Applebe added his personal thanks to the <br />recipients. <br /> <br />7. Mayor Malone called Public Hearing A to order at 6:26 P.M. <br />This hearing was regarding proposed amendments to Ordinance <br />1501, city of La Porte Zoning Ordinance, regarding bed and <br />breakfast regulations. <br /> <br />Mark Lewis reviewed the amendments for Council. Several <br />questions from Council were answered. The Mayor asked for <br />public input; there was none forthcoming. The Mayor adjourned <br />Public Hearing A. <br /> <br />Public Hearing B was called to order at 6:35 P.M. This <br />hearing was regarding a request to rezone 13.5632 acres being <br />a part of a 38.2800 acre tract and part of and out of Outlots <br />692 and 693 of the W. B. Lawrence La Porte Outlots <br />SUbdivision, from Mid-Density Residential (R-2) to Business <br />Industrial (BI). <br /> <br />Mark Lewis reviewed the request for Council, and stated that <br />the recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Commission was <br />to deny the request. Several questions from Council were <br />answered. Attorney Dick Gregg, representing the property <br />owners, addressed Council to ask for favorable consideration <br />of the request. <br /> <br />The Mayor asked for public input. Mr. Ray Roberson addressed <br />Council, stating he was against the rezoning from a resident's <br />standpoint, expressing his concern that some type of dangerous <br />chemicals might possibly be stored at the facili ty. Mr. <br />Charlie Young addressed Council to oppose the rezoning from a <br />standpoint that statements made by Mr. Gregg regarding no <br />expansion in that area having been made since 1983, that due <br />to the recession, little expansion has been done anywhere. <br /> <br />There being no further input, the Mayor adjourned Public <br />Hearing B. <br /> <br />8. Council considered an ordinance amending Ordinance No 1501, <br />the city of La Porte Zoning Ordinance, Article III, Section 3- <br />100; Article V, Section 5-600, Section 5-800; Article VI; <br />Article X, Section 10-609. <br />
