Administrative Reports <br />A. Purchasing Manager Louis Rigby reported that the city <br />auction held jointly with the City of Deer Park had <br />resulted in a total of $52,751 for La Porte. <br />B. Stan Sherwood reported that an opening reception for the <br />Recreation/Fitness Center would be held July 31 from 5:45 <br />until 8:00 P.M., and on August 1 there will be an open <br />house for the public, in conjunction with a Health Fair. <br />C. Louis Rigby reported there will be a completion ceremony <br />in the Council Chambers on August 4 at 1:30 P.M. for <br />those employees completing the Supervisory Training <br />course. <br />D. John Joerns advised Council of a SWAT incident at Green <br />Oaks Apartments that had occurred today. There were no <br />injuries, and the suspect was taken into custody and sent <br />to Baywood Hospital for observation. <br />].7. Council Action - Councilperson McLaughlin and Mayor Malone <br />brought items to Council's attention. <br />]_8. Council adjourned into executive session at 6:52 P.M. to <br />address Personnel items under V.A.T.S. - Article 6252-17 - <br />Section 2(G), as follows: Discuss appointments to various <br />Boards and Commissions. Council returned to the table at 7:18 <br />P.M. and addressed agenda items 8, 9, 10 and 11, as follows: <br />8. The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1849 - AN ORDINANCE <br />APPOINTING MEMBERS TO THE CITY OF LA PORTE PLANNING AND ZONING <br />COMMISSION; CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE <br />WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE <br />HEREOF. The following persons were appointed: Chairman, <br />Betty T. Waters; District 1 representative, Inge Browder; <br />District 2 representative, Wayne Anderson; District 3 <br />representative, Eugene Edmonds; District 4 representative, <br />Howard Ebow; District 5 representative, Dottie Kaminiski; <br />District 6 representative, Doug Martin. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Thrower to adovt Ordinance <br />1849 as read by the City Attornev. Second by Councilperson <br />Sutherland. The motion carried, 7 ayes, 1 nay, 1 abstain. <br />
