Second by Councilperson Clarke. <br /> The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1879 - AN ORDINANCE <br /> APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY OF LA <br /> PORTE AND RAY & HOLLINGTON ARCHITECTS, TO PROVIDE CONSTRUCTION <br /> DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR RELOCATION OF MUNICIPAL COURT; <br /> APPROPRIATING $14,815.00 PLUS A CONTINGENCY OF $1,481.50 TO <br /> FUND SAID CONTRACT; MAKING VARIOUS FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS <br /> RELATING TO THE SUBJECT; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN <br /> MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> Councilperson McLaughlin wished to go on record that the <br /> reason he wanted to table this item is because of a 1986 <br /> report of numerous safety code violations at the jail <br /> facility, and now we are going out to contract for a new court <br /> room facility in the same building. He doesn't think it's <br /> right to award a contract for an architect to come in and see <br /> what needs to be done, with all these violations still in <br /> effect. He thinks we need to rectify the jail problem and <br /> then the court system. <br /> Councilperson Gay wished to go on record to make sure it is <br /> understood that this has been discussed, and it's not like <br /> what he's (Councilperson McLaughlin) is saying it is. <br /> The vote was taken, and the motion carried, 8 ayes and 1 nay. <br /> Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, Porter, <br /> Gay, Maxwell, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br /> Nays: Councilperson McLaughlin <br /> 12. Council considered an ordinance amending Ordinance 1743, the <br /> City of La Porte Health Ordinance, to authorize Harris County <br /> to issue citations for violations. This item had been tabled <br /> by Councilperson McLaughlin at the meeting held November 16, <br /> 1992. <br /> Motion was made bv CouncilDerson McLauahlin to brina this ite~ <br /> back to the table. Second by Councilperson Cooper. The <br /> motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. <br /> Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, <br /> McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke and Mayor <br /> Malone <br /> Nays: None <br />
