• <br />Minutes, Regular Meeting, La Porte City Council <br />January 25, 1993, Page 5 <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Sutherland that an emergency <br />be declared and authorize emergency purchase of plant water <br />pump in an amount not to exceed $7.000. and that transfer of <br />funds from 002-806-807-402 to 002-806-807-821 be authorized to <br />cover the expenditure. Second by Councilperson Cooper. The <br />motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, <br />McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke and Mayor <br />Malone <br />Nays: None <br />At this time, at 6:37 P.M., Council took a short break to view the <br />DARE truck recently put into use. The meeting reconvened at 6:45 <br />P.M. <br />14. Workshop Item: Discussion of proposed juvenile curfew <br />ordinance. <br />Police Chief Bobby Powell addressed Council to explain the <br />reasoning behind proposing this ordinance. He then answered <br />questions from Council. <br />Ms. Brenda Bobino addressed Council in favor of having a <br />curfew ordinance. She felt it would help alleviate some of <br />the problems her neighborhood has been experiencing. <br />Ms. Cathy Supak addressed Council in favor of the ordinance. <br />Her family had a serious incident in which a window was broken <br />by a thrown bottle, which greatly frightened her child. <br />Ms. Bertha Cook related incidents to Council that she had <br />experienced. She feels a curfew ordinance would be very <br />helpful. <br />15. Administrative Reports <br />City Manager Bob Herrera asked if Council wished to direct <br />that the curfew ordinance be put on the next regular meeting <br />agenda for action. The answer was in the affirmative, and the <br />ordinance will be placed on the next agenda. <br />Mr. Herrera announced that the grant for airport improvements <br />at La Porte Municipal Airport had been approved, and that the <br />Federal portion of the grant would be for one million eight <br />hundred fourteen thousand four hundred and ninety dollars. <br />The City's portion of approximately 10% of that has been <br />budgeted in this year's budget. <br />
