MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />FEBRUARY 9, 1993 <br />1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Malone at 6:00 P.M. <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Norman Malone, <br />Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Mike Cooper, Bob Thrower, Bob <br />McLaughlin, Alton Porter, Jack Maxwell, Jerry Clarke <br />Members of City Council Absent: Councilperson Deotis Gay (had <br />been called away shortly before the meeting began due to a <br />death in the family) <br />Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Bob Herrera, City <br />Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Cherie Black, Assistant <br />City Manager John Joerns, Finance Director Jeff Litchfield, <br />Human Resources/Purchasing Manager Louis Rigby, Planning <br />Director Chuck Harrington, Police Chief Bobby Powell, Director <br />of Parks and Recreation Stan Sherwood, Finance Officer Linda <br />Stubbs, Accounting Supervisor Kathy Hutton, Recreation <br />Superintendent Tim O'Connor <br />Others Present: John Black, Bayshore Sun; 13 citizens <br />2. The invocation was given by City Attorney Askins. <br />3. Council considered approving the minutes of the regular <br />meeting held January 25, 1993. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Cooper to approve the Januar <br />25 minutes as presented. Second by Councilperson Maxwell. <br />The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, <br />McLaughlin, Porter, Maxwell, Clarke and Mayor <br />Malone <br />Nays: None <br />At this time, Mayor Malone presented a Centennial Certificate of <br />Appreciation to Mr. Harold Pfeiffer. Mr. Pfeiffer had been <br />scheduled to receive this award in July, but had been unable to <br />attend a Council meeting before tonight. <br />The Mayor left the Council table briefly; Mayor Pro Tem Mike Cooper <br />presided during the Mayor's absence. <br />4. Mr. Allen Shubert, partner in Glen Meadows Partners, addressed <br />Council regarding placement of temporary real estate signs. <br />He complimented the City on the cooperation he has gotten from <br />them. He asked that Council consider some type of relief from <br />the current sign ordinance for his company so that they might <br />place temporary real estate signs to advertise their location, <br />
