• • <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />OCTOBER 11, 1993 <br />1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Norman Malone at 6:00 <br />P. M. <br />Members of Citv Council Present: Mayor Norman Malone, <br />Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Mike Cooper, Bob McLaughlin, <br />Alton Porter, Jack Maxwell and Jerry Clarke <br />Members of City Council Absent: Councilpersons Bob Thrower <br />and Deotis Gay <br />Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Bob Herrera, City <br />Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Sue Lenes, Assistant City <br />Manager John Joerns, Director of Administrative Services Louis <br />Rigby, Police Chief Bobby Powell, Planning Director Chuck <br />Harrington, Director Parks and Recreation Buddy Jacobs, <br />Director Public Works Steve Gillett, Buyer Susan Kelley, <br />Director Finance Jeff Litchfield <br />Others Present: A number of citizens and school students <br />2. The invocation was given by Councilperson Alton Porter. <br />3. Council Considered approving minutes of Regular Meeting <br />September 27, 1993. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Clarke to approve September <br />27 minutes as presented. Second by Councilperson Cooper. The <br />motion carried, 6 ayes and 0 nays and 1 abstain. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, McLaughlin, <br />Maxwell, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: Councilperson Porter <br />4. Mayor Malone proclaimed October 29, 1993 as "Orange Crush <br />Day". Ms. Margaret Anderson and Mr. Steve Barton and a number <br />of Bulldog football players accepted the proclamation. The <br />Mayor also proclaimed October 19, 1993 as "Retired Senior <br />Volunteer Program Recognition Day". Mr. J. R. Ensminger and <br />Evelyn Kennedy accepted the proclamation. Mrs. Kennedy <br />thanked Council for their assistance with the Senior Citizen <br />programs in La Porte and for building the Fitness Center which <br />houses the Senior Citizen Center. <br />
