~ ~ <br />Minutes Special Called Regular Meeting <br />La Porte City Council <br />March 18, 1996, Page 2 <br />Mr. Gene Sanchez, 9750 Barmont, La Porte, Texas, addressed <br />Council regarding the La Porte Girls Softball Association. <br />Mr. Sanchez asked that board members of the Association be <br />acknowledged. Several board members stood to acknowledge <br />their support of Mr. Sanchez's request, but were not <br />introduced. Mr. Sanchez requested the postponement of the <br />building of a fence by the La Porte Rodeo Association at Lomax <br />Park, (Northwest Park Grounds). Mr. Sanchez stated, "La Porte <br />Girls Softball Association feels there was inadequate time for <br />the input from La Porte Girls Softball Association on the <br />planning of the fence and the fence boundaries. As of this <br />date the Parks and Recreation Director Stephen Barr and City <br />Manager Robert T. Herrera are aware of the issues. La Porte <br />Girls Softball Association is willing to work with the Rodeo <br />Association and the City Parks and Recreation to resolve these <br />issues. A letter on behalf of LPGSA on the position of the <br />"fence" being built will be submitted for public record upon <br />completion." Mr. Sanchez thanked Council for their time and <br />cooperation. <br />5. CONSIDER APPROVAL OR OTHER ACTION REGARDING AN ORDINANCE <br />APPROVING THE TRANSFERS OF THE CABLE TELEVISION FRANCHIBE WITB <br />PRIME CABLE OF FORT BEND, LIMITED PARTNERS; GRANT EBTENSION OF <br />FRANCHISE AGREEMENT IINTIL DECEMBER 31, 1996 (Ord. 96-2095) - <br />R. Askins <br />City Attorney Knox Askins addressed Council regarding the <br />request. Mr. Askins reported that Prime Cable, the present <br />holder of the cable franchise for the City of La Porte, has <br />been in negotiations with TCI Communications, which is one of <br />the largest cable television operators in the United States, <br />for the sale of their franchise and transfer of that agreement <br />to TCI. Prime Cable has requested the ordinance which is <br />before Council tonight. This ordinance will give City Council <br />approval to the transfer of the cable franchise to TCI or one <br />of its subsidiaries. The second thing this ordinance does is <br />to extend the present extension granted Prime Cable, which <br />expires on June 30, 1996, to December 31, 1996. TCI and their <br />officials will negotiate directly with the City for the new <br />franchise document. <br />City Attorney read: ORDINANCE NO. 96-2095 - AN ORDINANCE <br />APPROVING THE TRANSFERS OF THE CABLE TELEVISION FRANCHISE WITH <br />PRIME CABLE OF FORT BEND, L. P.; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE <br />OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />
