CONSIDER APPROVAL OR OTHER ACTION REGARDING A RESOLUTION OF THE <br />CITY OF LA PORTE DESIGNATING A REPRESENTATIVE AND AN ALTERNATE <br />REPRESENTATIVE TO HOUSTON-GALVESTON AREA COUNCIL 1997 GENERAL <br />ASSEMBLY AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS (Res. 97-01) - Mayor Malone <br /> <br />Mayor Malone reviewed the summary and recommendation for the rt".l}uest and explained that <br />Council person Sutherland is presently serving as the Delegate and expressed the desire to <br />continue if it is the Council's desire. Alternate Delegate is Jerry Clarke. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson McLaughlin to a,pprove Resolution 97-{)1 and retain <br />Council person Sutherland as Delegate and Councilperson Jerry Clark as Alternate Delegate to <br />represent City of La Porte at the 1997 General Assembly and Board of Directors for Houston- <br />Galveston Area Council. Second by Councilperson Cooper. The motion carried, 8 ayes, 0 <br />nays. <br /> <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke and <br />Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />11. CONSIDER APPROVAL OR OTHER ACTION REGARDING A RESOLUTION <br />SUPPORTING LEGISLATION TO ALWW MEMBER COMMUNITIES IN THE HARRIS <br />COUNTY METROPOLITAN RAPID TRANSIT AUTHORITY (METRO) TO WITHDRAW <br />FROM THE AUTHORITY (Res. 97-02) - Mayor Malone <br /> <br />Mayor Malone reviewed the summary and recommendation for the request to pass Resolution 97- <br />02, supporting \he Humble resolution seeking legislation to allow member communities in the <br />Harris County Metropolitan Rapid Transit Authority (METRO) to withdraw from the Authority. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Council person Sutherland to approve Resolution 97-02. Second by <br />Councilperson Porter. The motion carried, 8 ayes, 0 nays. <br /> <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke and <br />Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />Councilperson Porter asked Mayor Malone and Council to allow him a few moments to qualify <br />his position on two items to be brought before Council. Councilperson Porter indicated he must <br />leave the Council table at this time to attend another meeting relating to his personal business. <br />Councilperson Porter stated his position regarding the next items, Item 12, the rezoning request. <br />He indicated he is in favor of the rezoning, as he has looked at the location and it appears to be <br />conducive to a good development. He also stated he is most strongly in favor for the adoption <br />of Ordinance 1000-1 designating the areas where wine and/or beer for consumption on the <br />premises may be sold. Councilperson Porter retired from the table at 6:30 P.M. <br />
