Council considered approval or other action regarding an Ordinance declaring the <br />results of the General Election held in the City of La Porte on May 1, 1999. <br />City Attorney Knox Askins read: ORDINANCE 99-2323 - AN ORDINANCE <br />DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF LA <br />PORTE ON MAY 1, 1999, FOR THE ELECTION OF COUNCILPERSON AT LARGE, <br />POSITION B; COUNCILPERSON DISTRICT 1; AND COUNCILPERSON DISTRICT <br />6; . FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND <br />PROVIDING AN EFFECTIBVE DATE HEREOF. <br />City Attorney Knox Askins read the results of the final official canvass of votes at the <br />May 1, 1999, General Election. In the race for Councilperson-At-Large B; Alton Porter <br />was unopposed with 851 votes. In the race for District 1; Guy Sutherland 163 ,Mike <br />Mosteit 113. In the race for District 6; Jerry Clazke 117, Elmer Edwards 28, Bruce <br />Meismer 133. Councilperson At-Large-Position B, Alton Porter was re-elected. <br />Councilperson District 1 Guy Sutherland was re-elected. District 6 will have a nsn-off on <br />May 29, 1999. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Ebow to approve Ordinance 99-2323 as presented by <br />Mr. Askins. Second by Councilperson Griffiths. The motion carved unanimously. <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, Griffiths, Porter, Gay, Young, Clarke, and Mayor <br />Malone <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: None <br />7. Mayor Malone administered the Oath of Office to At-Lazge-Position B Councilperson <br />Alton Porter and District 1 Councilperson Guy Sutherland. <br />8. Council considered approval or other action regarding an Ordinance appointing a <br />member of City Council to serve as Mayor Pro-Tem for the period of May 04, 1999 <br />through May 09, 2000. <br />City Attorney Knox Askins read: ORDINANCE 99-2324 - AN ORDINANCE <br />APPOINTING A MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL TO SERVE AS MAYOR PRO- <br />TEM OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, FOR THE PERIOD OF MAY 4, 1999 THROUGH <br />MAY 9, 2000; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND <br />PROVIDING AN EFFECTIBVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Councilperson Porter recommended Councilperson Engelken for the position of Mayor <br />Pro-Tem. Second by Councilperson Griffiths. There being no further recommendations <br />the motion carried unanimously. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Porter to approve Ordinance 99-2324 as presented <br />by Mr. Askins. Second by Councilperson Griffiths.
