Second by Councilperson Young. The motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Ayes: Engelken, Ebow, Griffiths, Porter, Gay , Young, and Mayor Malone. <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: None <br /> <br />11. Council considered approving an ordinance extending the employment agreement of the <br />City Manager Robert T. Herrera (Ord. 99-2360). <br /> <br />Mayor Norman Malone presented summary and recommendation and answered questions <br />for City Council. Council requested the removal of wording in paragraph 4 which refers <br />to "age". <br /> <br />City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 99-2360 - AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AN <br />EXTENSION OF THE EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF LA <br />PORTE AND ROBERT T. HERRERA, CITY MANAGER, FOR A THREE YEAR <br />TERM COMMENCING OCTOBER I, 1999; MAKING VARIOUS FINDINGS AND <br />PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE SUBJECT; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE <br />OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Engelken to approve the ordinance and agreement <br />with changes recommended by Council. Second by Councilperson Porter. The motion <br />carried. <br /> <br />Ayes: Engelken, Ebow, Griffiths, Porter, Young, and Mayor Malone. <br />Nays: Gay <br />Abstain: None <br /> <br />12. Council considered approving an ordinance lengthening the school zone on San Jacinto to <br />500 feet south of East "G" Street (99-2361). <br /> <br />Director of Public Works Steve Gillett presented summary and recommendation <br /> <br />City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 99-2361 - AN ORDINANCE AMENDING <br />CHAPTER 70, ARTICLE ill, SECTION 70-97, "SCHOOL ZONES", PARAGRAPH <br />(a)(6), OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE; FOR TIlE <br />PURPOSE OF DESIGNATING MAXIMUM SPEED LIMITS IN A SCHOOL ZONE; <br />PROVIDING THAT ANY PERSON VIOLATING THE TERMS OF THIS <br />ORDINANCE SHALL BE DEEMED GUlL TY OF A MISDEMEANOR AND UPON <br />CONVICTION SHALL BE FINED IN A SUM NOT TO EXCEED lWO HUNDRED <br />DOLLARS; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE <br />WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE <br />HEREOF. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Young to approve the ordinance as oresented by Mr. <br />Gillett. Second by Councilperson Gay. The motion carried unanimously. <br />
