Council considered approving a resolution supporting litigation involving Utility <br />Franchise Fees. <br /> <br />Councilman Chuck Engelken left the table for consideration and voting on this item. <br /> <br />Assistant City Attorney John Armstrong presented summary and recommendations. <br /> <br />Assistant City Attorney read: RESOLUTION 2000-10 - A RESOLUTION <br />SUPPORTING LITIGA TION INVOLVING UTILITY FRANCHISE FEES; FINDING <br />COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Clarke to approve the resolution as presented. <br />Second by Councilperson Ebow. The motion carried. <br /> <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Ebow, Griffiths, Porter, Gay, Young, Clarke, and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: Engelken <br /> <br />9. Council considered approving an ordinance authorizing changes to the City's Medical <br />Plan. <br /> <br />Director of Administrative Services Louis Rigby presented summary and <br />recommendation and answered Council's questions. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Gay to approve the attachment to Ordinance 2000- <br />2407 with the following amendment: Second by Councilperson Clarke. The motion <br />carried. <br /> <br />Paragraph five (5) - Employees retiring from the City, and who work for another <br />employer offering health coverage, shall not be eligible for retiree health coverage from <br />the City after their subsequent employment ends, regardless of the length of service with <br />the subsequent employer. <br /> <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, Griffths, Gay, Young, Clarke and Mayor Malone. <br />Nays: Councilman Porter <br />Abstain: None <br /> <br />Assistant City Attorney John Armstrong read: ORDINANCE 2000-2407 - AN <br />ORDINANCE ADOPTING AN AMENDMENT TO THE CITY OF LA PORTE <br />MEDICAL PLAN; BY PROVIDING FOR THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF <br />RETIREE MEDICAL COVERAGE; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF SAID <br />AMENDMENT; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; FINDING <br />COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />Motion was made bv Councilperson Griffiths to approve the resolution as presented. <br />Second by Council person Gay. The motion carried. <br />
