0 • <br />City Council Minutes 6-25 -01 — Page 2 <br />Bob Capen — 807 Oakleaf La Porte, TX. 77571 voiced his concerns regarding the Port Of <br />Houston Expansion. He noted many citizens of La Porte also opposed the project, and <br />requested that City Council support citizens in opposing the expansion. <br />Victoria Shaul — 3110 Silversprings Dr. La Porte TX. 77571, President of Shady River <br />Civic Club spoke on behalf of Shady River residents. The association opposes the <br />expansion due to health risks, traffic, and other negative effects on citizens. She requested <br />City Council to make a more visible stand opposing the expansion. <br />5. Council considered approving an ordinance appointing members to various boards, <br />commissions, and committees, for the City of La Porte. <br />Mayor Pro-Tem Chuck Engelken presented summary and recommendation and answered <br />Council's questions. <br />Assistant City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 2001-2494 — AN ORDINANCE <br />APPOINTING MEMBERS TO VARIOUS BOARDS, COMMISSIONS, AND <br />COMMITTEES, OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, PROVIDING A SERVERABILITY <br />CLAUSE, CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE, FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH <br />THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW, PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Clarke to approve Ordinances 2001-2494 as <br />presented by Mayor Pro-Tem. Second by Councilperson Griffiths. The motion carried. <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Porter, Ebow, Griffiths, Warren, Young, and Clarke. <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: None <br />6. Council considered approving an ordinance appointing a member to the Re -districting <br />Committee, and establishing its powers and duties. <br />Mayor Pro-Tem Chuck Engelken presented summary and recommendation and answered <br />Council's questions. <br />Assistant City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 2001-2460B — AN ORDINANCE <br />APPOINTING A MEMBER TO THE RE -DISTRICTING COMMITTEE, AND <br />ESTABLISHING ITS POWERS AND DUTIES; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE <br />OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Warren to approve Ordinance 2001-2460B as <br />presented by Mayor Pro-Tem Chuck Engelken. Second by Councilperson Sutherland. <br />The motion carried. <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Griffiths, Ebow, Porter, Warren, Young, and Clarke. <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: None <br />
