<br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />City Council Minutes 8-27-01 - Page 2 <br /> <br />Dave Turnquist - 8503 Ashwyne Lane - addressed Council on the following items: <br /> <br />Overpass and road improvements to Fairmont Parkway - he informed Council that he <br />was informed the Port of Houston met this day and passed a resolution to become a local <br />sponsor for the Fairmont Parkway overpass. They will assume 20% of the $5,000,000 <br />estimated cost. He indicated the other 80% is expected to come from a federal clean air <br />act grant. <br /> <br />Swimming Pool- he requested Council consider building the pool marked for San <br />Jacinto and G Street at Sylvan Beach. <br /> <br />5. PRESENT A nONS <br /> <br />Public Works Director Steve Gillett recognized retiree Ruben Benavides and presented <br />him with a watch. Mr. Benavides was employed by the City of La Porte for 24 years. <br /> <br />6. Public Hearing - Juvenile Curfew - Discuss and review of annual review juvenile curfew <br />ordinance. <br /> <br />Mayor Malone opened Public Hearing at 6: 17 p.m. <br /> <br />Police Chief Richard Reff provided City Council with a report advising them the laws <br />require this ordinance to be reviewed on an annual basis to determine if it needs changes <br />or is to remain the same. Public Input - There were no citizens wishing to speak on this <br />matter. <br /> <br />Recommendation of Staff - Reff recommend the ordinance remain the same with no <br />changes. <br /> <br />Close Public Hearing - The Public Hearing was closed at 6:20 pm. <br /> <br />7. Council considered approving continuing, abolishing or modifying the Juvenile Curfew <br />Ordinance. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Griffiths to keep the ordinance as is and make no <br />changes or modifications. Second by Councilperson Clarke. The motion carried. <br /> <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, Griffiths, Warren, Young, Porter, Clarke, and <br />Malone. <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: None <br /> <br />8. Council considered approving an ordinance appointing Bill Harry Director ofthe Harris <br />County Appraisal District. <br /> <br />Mayor Malone reminded Council, Mr. Harry has been the Council's appointment for <br />several terms. <br />
