Council to consider approval or other action of an ordinance adopting Chapter 172 of the <br />Texas Local Government Code. <br />Director of Administrative Services Carol Buttler presented summary and recommendation <br />and answered Council's questions. <br />Assistant City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 2002-2598 - AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING <br />THE PROVISIONS OF TEXAS LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE; CHAPTER 172, <br />"TEXAS POLITICAL SUBDIVISIONS UNIFORM GROUP BENEFITS PROGRAM", <br />EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2003; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN <br />MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Motion was made by Councilmember Beasley to approve Ordinance 2002-2598 as presented <br />by Mrs. Buttler. Second by Councilmember Warren. The motion carried. <br />Ayes: Mosteit, Engelken, Beasley, Warren, Young, Meismer and Malone <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: None <br />8. Council to consider approval or other action of an ordinance authorizing an agreement <br />between the City and Harris County OHED on behalf of the U. S. Department HUD. <br />City Planner Gwen Goodwin presented summary and recommendation and answered <br />Council's questions. <br />Assistant City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 2002-2599 - AN ORDINANCE APPROVING <br />AND AUTHORIZING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY OF LA PORTE AND <br />HARRIS COUNTY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT, FOR <br />ACCEPTANCE OF A CONDITIONAL AWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF $350,000.00 <br />FROM HARRIS COUNTY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT FOR <br />FUNDING THE CITY OF LA PORTE'S HOME INVESTMENT PARTNERSHIP <br />(HOME) PROGRAM; APPROPRIATING A SUM OF UP TO $87,500.00 IN CITY <br />MATCHING FUNDS TO FURTHER THE CITY'S GOAL OF PROVIDING <br />AFFORDABLE HOUSING; MAKING VARIOUS FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS <br />RELATING TO THE SUBJECT; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN <br />MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Motion was made by Councilmember Mosteit to approve the ordinance as presented by Mrs. <br />Goodwin.
