Minutes of Regular Meeting, Public Hearing and Workshop Meeting of La Porte City Council on July 26, 2010 8 <br />A. Update on travel trailers, permit fees and blue roofs related to Hurricane <br />"Ike" - D. Wilmore <br />Chief Building Official Debbie Wilmore provided an update on travel trailers, permit <br />fees and blue roofs related to Hurricane "Ike". <br />Council directed staff as follows: <br />Permits continue to be required for all "Ike" related work. <br />Continue fee waiver on all "Ike" related permits until November 2010. <br />The individual trailer located at 619 S. Shady Lane (home repair) and the FEMA <br />THU (Temporary Housing Unit) located at 208 Bay Colony (new home) may <br />continue to be utilized until the homes become livable. No other "Ike" related <br />trailers are authorized. <br />No deadline regarding the removal of blue roofs for residential properties; <br />however, staff shall establish a roof case utilizing the following procedures: <br />1) Meet with resident and determine if lack of funds or pending Ike claim <br />(document file). <br />2) Provide handout identifying potential financial assistance (document file). <br />3) Advise tenant/owner that blue roof may remain as long as they remain <br />properly secured. If tarps become loose or start tearing apart, it must be <br />properly re-secured within 10 days. Maintenance of blue tarps is required until <br />roof is replaced/repaired. <br />4) Case remains active until roof is formally repaired. Suspense blue roof cases <br />for periodic inspections to confirm they remain in good condition. <br />Non-residential properties are no longer allowed to have a blue roof. Staff shall <br />establish a roof case utilizing the following procedures: <br />1) Meet with tenant/owner and advise that they have 30-days to obtain city <br />permit and have roof repaired/replaced. Issue 30-day notice in person <br />whenever possible; otherwise, send certified court letter. <br />2) City roof permit is required prior to replacement and the installation shall <br />comply with applicable city codes/policies. <br />3) Advise tenant/owner that failure to comply shall result in the issuance of a <br />municipal court citation. <br />B. La Porte Safety Town -Safety Town Project Committee (Police, Fire, EMS, <br />EM, Parks & Public Works Departments) <br />Council directed staff member to move forward on this project. <br />
