City Manager Corby Alexander presented a summary. President of La Porte Boys Baseball <br />Association Heath Patterson spoke and updated Council on the current operations of the <br />association and commented he does not think it is in the best interest for the City of <br />La Porte to take over the La Porte Boys Baseball Association. <br />Councilmember J. Martin asked if the association has an ongoing relationship with the City to effect <br />changes to improve internal controls of financial management. Mr. Patterson advised, as the <br />President of the Board, he has met with City Manager Corby Alexander and Staff and assured any <br />and all information will be shared with the City. <br />Councilmember Engelken commented he thinks a hybrid solution is the best approach: that the City <br />do the finances and the La Porte Boys Baseball Association run the operation part. <br />Councilmember Leonard asked if the La Porte Boys Baseball Association hosts outside league <br />play. Mr. Patterson responded yes. <br />Councilmember Earp commented he is also in favor of the City overseeing the finances of the <br />La Porte Boys Baseball Association. <br />Mr. Patterson advised after he became President of the La Porte Boys Baseball Association in <br />August 2015, he requested a meeting with City Manager Corby Alexander and provided all <br />information to the City and advised if the City had reasons to believe something is missing, he will <br />ask the La Porte Police Department to investigate the matter. <br />Councilmember Zemanek asked Mr. Patterson how soon will he be able to provide financial <br />information for tournaments, Tuesday and Thursday League Play and League Play for the last <br />calendar year to City Council. Mr. Patterson advised within a week. <br />Councilmember Clausen asked how much does it cost to register an 8-9 year old for baseball. Mr. <br />Patterson advised $205.00, which includes candy to sell. <br />Councilmember Leonard asked City Manager Corby Alexander if it is the City's intention to take <br />over the financials or to assist with the financials. Mr. Alexander responded the discussion is <br />intended for the City to be the financial agent for the La Porte Boys Baseball Association. <br />Mayor Rigby asked City Manager Alexander if the City has ever requested information from the <br />La Porte Boys Baseball Association and was not provided the information. Mr. Alexander <br />responded yes. Mayor Rigby then commented he is in agreement with the City overseeing the <br />finances and the La Porte Boys Association overseeing the baseball operations. <br />Councilmember Engelken moved for City Staff to work out a hybrid solution with the La Porte Boys <br />Baseball Association and come back to City Council with the details. Councilmember Leonard <br />seconded. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY 9/0. <br />(c) Discussion and possible action regarding an Ordinance amending Chapter 70 "Traffic and <br />Vehicles" of the Code of Ordinances of the City of La Porte to provide for removal of the City of <br />La Porte truck route on W. Martin moved to amend Chapter 70 "Traffic and Vehicles" of the Code of <br />Ordinances of the City of La Porte to provide for removal of the City of La Porte truck route on W. <br />Main Street from 16th Street to Underwood Rd.
