Prior to council action, Assistant City Attorney Clark Askins read the caption of Ordinance 2016-3634 AN <br />ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 70 "TRAFFIC AND VEHICLES' OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES TO <br />REMOVE PORTIONS OF WEST MAIN STREET FROM THE CITY OF LA PORTE TRUCK ROUTE, <br />PROVIDING A REPEALING CLAUSE; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE <br />WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW, PROVIDING THAT ANY PERSON VIOLATING THE TERMS OF THIS <br />ORDINANCE SHALL BE DEEMED GUILTY OF A MISDEMEANOR AND UPON CONVICTION SHALL BE <br />FINED IN A SUM NOT TO EXCEED FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS; PROVIDING FOR THE PUBLICATION OF <br />THE CAPTION HEREOF; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />10. REPORTS <br />(a) Receive report of the La Porte Development Corporation Board — Councilmember Engelken <br />Councilmember Engelken provided a report of the La Porte Development Corporation Board <br />meeting held prior to the City Council Meeting. <br />11. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS <br />City Manager Corby Alexander commented staff will come back with a companion ordinance to <br />remove the section of the roadway from the high frequency truck route corridor. <br />12. COUNCIL COMMENTS regarding matters appearing on the agenda; recognition of community <br />members, city employees, and upcoming events; inquiry of staff regarding specific factual <br />information. <br />Councilmember Clausen commented the meeting was good tonight; Councilmember J. Martin <br />commented Staff did an excellent job on the quarterly newsletter; thanked Heath Patterson for <br />doing a great job presenting the item to City Council, and thanked Council for approving the Golf <br />Course Concessionaire; Councilmember K. Martin congratulated Parks and Recreation Director <br />Rosalyn Epting for Parks and Recreation Month and wished everyone a safe and Happy 4th of July; <br />Councilmember Kaminski congratulated Parks and Recreation Director Rosalyn Epting for Parks <br />and Recreation Month; Councilmember Zemanek thanked Council for revisiting and taking action <br />on the truck route on Spencer Hwy. and wished everyone a safe and Happy 41h of July; <br />Councilmember Leonard informed he just came back from Alaska and commented it is good to be <br />back home in the heat. He also congratulated Parks and Recreation Director Rosalyn Epting for <br />Parks and Recreation Month; and commented Spencer Hwy will be much safer for the students; <br />Councilmember Engelken thanked Heath Patterson for coming and presenting the item with a lot of <br />class and dignity and thanked La Porte Independent School District for their partnership with the <br />bulldog emblem for the Main Street water tower; Councilmember Earp congratulated Parks and <br />Recreation Director Rosalyn Epting and her Staff; thanked Council for their support on the truck <br />route change and wished everyone a safe and Happy 4th of July; and Mayor Rigby congratulated <br />Parks and Recreation Director Rosalyn Epting for Parks and Recreation Month; commented the Sip <br />and Stroll had plenty of vendors and attendees until the storm came through; wished everyone a <br />Happy 4th of July; advised he will not be participating in the 4th of July Parade due to being asked to <br />participate at an event at the Battleship of Texas. <br />13. ADJOURN - There being no further business, Councilmember Engelken made a motion to adjourn <br />the meeting at 7:59 p.m. Councilmember Leonard seconded.
