<br />2005 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN REVIEW COMMITTEE <br />MINUTES OF AUGUST 15, 2005 <br /> <br />COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Betty Waters, Ed Matuszak, Chester Pool, David Brady <br />MEMBER ABSENT: John Tomerlin <br /> <br />CITY STAFF PRESENT: City Planner Masood Malik, Jeff Suggs, Debra Dye <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Meeting called to order by Chairperson Betty Waters at 7:05 p.m. <br /> <br />2. APPROVE MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 1, 2005, MEETING <br /> <br />Motion by Chester Pool to approve the minutes of August 1, 2005. Second by Ed Matuszak. The <br />minutes were approved as presented. <br /> <br />3. REVIEW LAND USE PLAN <br /> <br />The following was noted during the discussion: <br /> <br />o Land use plan was temporarily overlooked to move on to the next item on the agenda. <br /> <br />4. UPDATE ON MAIN STREET DISTRICT- DEBRA DYE <br /> <br />The following was noted during the discussion: <br /> <br />o Visual aspects of long-term Comprehensive Plan Objective will become apparent in an <br />estimated 3-5 years. <br />o Empty lots along Main Street have been mapped using GIS in order to be marketed for <br />development. <br />o Issues that need to be more firmly addressed include usage restrictions in the Main Street <br />District and creation of Architectural Standards. <br />o Marketing analysis was suggested again for the proposed bed and breakfasts. <br />o The Committee will be prepared next week to comment on the Main Street Recommendation. <br /> <br />5. REVIEW PUBLIC SAFETY PLAN- JEFF SUGGS <br /> <br />o LEPC has new, stricter, requirements for Industry to comply with in training and education. <br />o Educating the youth of La Porte is priority, and is implemented in the following ways: <br /> <br />-Flyers (paid for by LEPC) go out to all the Elementary schools in September. <br />-Safety Fair takes place in October. <br />-Wally Wise, the turtle, serves as the mascot for the shelter-in-place program, and tours <br />elementary schools for approximately two weeks a year. <br />-New-hire teachers as well as established school staff are required to go through shelter-in- <br />place training. <br /> <br />o Two new dispatchers have been added to the City staff, ensuring 3 dispatchers on shift at all <br />times in Police, Fire, and EMS. <br />
