The following Commissioners <br />were also sworn in as follows: <br />1. R. J. Blackwell District 1 <br />2. Inge Browder District 2 <br />3. Lola Phillips District 4 <br />4. Charl es D. Boyle District 5 <br />5. Jack Gresham District 6 <br />4. The new Officers elected are as follows: <br />A. There was a motion by Charles Boyle and a second by Jack <br />Gresham to elect Bobby Blackwell as Vice Chairman. The <br />vote was unanimous. <br />B. There was a motion by Lola Phillips and a second by Charles <br />Boyle to elect Inge Browder as Secretary. The vote was <br />unanimous. <br />5. Pepper Massingill, Representative of McDonald's addressed the <br />Commission regarding signage. They are interested in erecting <br />an elevated sign that will be located at the intersection of <br />Fairmont Parkway/8th Street. Because the maximum height for any <br />elevated sign is 45 feet, they are asking for the Commission to <br />consider an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance to allow them to put <br />up a higher sign. They feel it is needed to bring in business <br />from Highway 146. <br />6. Public Hearing was called to order. <br />A. Consider Rezoning Request 88-002A, by Fairmont Park Joint <br />Venture and J. P. Jackson to rezone a 13.52 acre tract and <br />an adjoining 4.50 acre tract of the W. M. Jones Survey <br />Abstract 482 from R-3, High Density Residential and <br />Neighborhood Commercial to General Commercial. <br />Those who spoke in favor of the request were as follows: <br />1. Eddie Gray, Fairmont Park Joint Venture: The purpose of <br />rezoning the 13.52 acre tract and the adjoining 4.50 <br />acre tract is to allow construction of a possible <br />shopping center to benefit the area residents. <br />2. J. P. Jackson, J. P.'s Service Center: Discussed the <br />parking facilities and entrances into his existing <br />business in relation to the proposed construction. <br />
