Over <br />90 percent of the area allotted to parks falls within <br />currently under-utilized vacant land areas. <br />o The linkage of La Porte's proposed trail system to the <br />Bay Area Blvd. walkway and bikeway, which is a principal <br />component of the regional trail system. <br />o The location of neighborhood parks in direct relationship <br />to and in the approximate center of future neighborhoods. <br />a Definition of the types and numbers of recreation and <br />sport facilities to be implemented within La Porte's <br />parks. <br />Table 11 defines the proposed open space, recreation, bay- <br />front facilities, and pedestrian intersections to be developed in <br />La Porte both in the 5-year program and in the long term. Tables <br />in Appendix 3 define prototypical guidelines that were used as <br />• the basis for determining the proposed facilities. These guide- <br />lines are derived from Recreation, Park, and Open Space Standards <br />and Guidelines published by the National Recreation and Park <br />Association. <br />The open space and recreation facilities included within <br />the 5-year program are considered priority projects. Specific <br />descriptions follow. <br />o Open Space Facilities <br />- Little Cedar Bayou Regional Park - This proposed <br />~0-acre park is located south of Little Cedar Bayou <br />from the bay to the existing cemetery proximate to <br />SH 146 is the project of highest priority within the <br />Open Space and Pedestrian System Plan. The park will <br />not only serve to provide needed recreational .facili- <br />ties, but also will be a project with regional impact <br />and draw.
