CONSIDER RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL REGARDING REZONE <br />REQUEST #1103-009. <br />Motion by Kirby Linscomb to recommend to City Council, approval of Rezone Request <br />#R03-009, with the provision of buffering measures, i.e. a six-foot site bearing fence with <br />landscaping including trees along the rear property line to help reduce the possible <br />impact of light and noise from the adjacent non-residential properties. <br />Second by Dottie Kaminski. OPEN PUBLIC HEARING TO CONSIDER REZONE REQUEST #1103-008 FOR 21.289 <br />ACRES OF LAND LOCATED AT 1241 UNDERWOOD ROAD, FURTHER DESCRIBED <br />AS LOTS 367, 368, 369, 369A, AND 370 LA PORTE OUTLOTS, ENOCH BRINSON <br />SURVEY, ABSTRACT 5, CITY OF LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS. THE <br />APPLICANT, SHAW MAINTENANCE, INC., SEEKS TO REZONE THE PROPERTY <br />FROM GENERAL COMMERCIAL (GC), MID -DENSITY RESIDENTIAL (R-2) AND <br />LOW -DENSITY RESIDENTIAL (R-1) TO BUSINESS INDUSTRIAL (BI). <br />Chairperson Waters opened the public hearing at 6:20 P.M. <br />A. STAFF PRESENTATION <br />Mr. Malik presented staffs report and answered questions from the Commission. <br />Shaw Maintenance, Inc., has requested a zone change for 21.289 acres of land <br />located at 1241 Underwood Road. The property is currently being utilized for <br />office, storage/warehouse, and miscellaneous shop fabrication activities. The <br />zone change would allow expansion of existing activities at the facility. <br />B. PROPONENTS <br />Vernon Johnson, with Shaw Maintenance, 1911 Shart, Crosby, Texas, <br />addressed the Commission. Mr. Johnson stated the property is not sellable, <br />leasable, or usable, under current city ordinances. The current zoning <br />classification has hindered attempts to sell the property. Mr. Johnson noted <br />some buildings were removed from the property during clean up. Mr. Johnson <br />
