• • <br />5) In the cases where the driveway is asphalt and the adjoining public <br />street is concrete, the approach must be concrete. <br />6) A concrete approach is required when the adjoining public street is <br />concrete. <br />7) Tie the rebar from the approach into the rebar of the connecting <br />sidewalk. In .all cases use driveway reinforcing for the portion of the <br />sidewalk crossing the approach. <br />b. Asphalt Approach <br />1) No asphalt approaches are allowed to tie into in a concrete street <br />section. <br />2) Asphalt driveways are permissible even when the adjoining public <br />street is a concrete street. <br />2. Connecting to Asphalt Street <br />a. Concrete Approach <br />1) Allowed only if the driveway is also concrete. <br />2) Stop the concrete approach 24 inches short of the existing edge of <br />pavement to facilitate construction of an asphalt tie-in to the asphalt <br />street. <br />3) The City of La Porte Public Works Department will construct an asphalt <br />tie-in from the concrete approach for new driveways only. <br />4) The reconstruction of an existing approach and tie-in shall be the <br />responsibility of the landowner unless the approach, driveway or tie-in <br />is disturbed by city maintenance activities. <br />5) Tie the rebar from the approach into the rebar of the connecting <br />sidewalk. In all cases use like rebar for both the sidewalk and the <br />approach. <br />6) Concrete approaches shall be a minimum of 3000 psi concrete and shall <br />be reinforced with a minimum of #3 bars at 18 inches on center or #4 <br />bars at 24 inches on center. <br />b. Asphalt Approach <br />It shall be the responsibility of the landowner to tie the asphalt of the proposed <br />driveway and approach into the asphalt of the existing street. <br />B. Driveways <br />1. Flared entrances on driveways are not allowed. <br />2. Concrete driveways shall be reinforced with a minimum of #6x6x6 Welded Wire Mesh <br />or greater. <br />3. Driveways shall conform to all criteria for same listed in Chapter 106 of the La Porte <br />Code of Ordinances. <br />7.12 MEDIAN OPENINGS FOR DRIVEWAYS <br />A. Residential <br />1.
