CONSIDER RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL REGARDING REZONE REQUEST <br />#R08-002 <br /> <br />Motion by Nick Barrera to recommend to City Council approval of Rezone Request #R08-002. <br /> <br />Second by Paul Berner. OPEN WORKSHOP <br /> <br />Chairman Hal Lawler opened the workshop at 6:20 p.m. <br /> <br />A. Discuss Off-Street Parking Space Standards <br />Staff's report was presented by Masood Malik, City Planner. The Planning Department has <br />received several inquiries regarding possible hearings for variances to the required parking <br />space sizes, design standards and specifications as stated in the Zoning Ordinance (Chapter <br />106 of the Code of Ordinances). The current standard parking space size is ten (10) feet <br />wide and the maneuvering aisle is a minimum twenty-eight (28) feet wide for 900 angle <br />parking. <br /> <br />After discussion by the Commission, the consensus was to change the suggested <br />requirements for a 900 angle parking space width from 10' to 9' and maneuvering aisle width <br />from 28' to 25'. <br /> <br />B. Discuss Trucking Terminals and Truck Routes within the City Limits of La Porte <br />Staffs report was presented by Masood Malik, City Planner. City Council directed staff to <br />conduct a review of the existing provisions of Chapter 106 (Zoning) regarding the trucking <br />terminals and truck routes within the City limits of La Porte. The purpose of the proposed <br />changes is to correlate the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance with Traffic and Vehicle <br />Ordinance for suitable placement of trucking facilities and proper use of the City's truck <br />routes. <br /> <br />After discussion by the Commission, The consensus was to change the language as <br />presented and bring back to the Commission for a Public Hearing December 18, 2008. <br /> <br />7. CLOSE WORKSHOP <br /> <br />Chairman Hal Lawler closed the workshop at 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br />8. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS <br /> <br />Administrative report was presented by Masood Malik, City Planner; <br /> <br />*City Council approved plans to erect a ten story office building and a park at Five Points. <br />*The Sylvan Beach re-nourishment project has been delayed a couple of months due to <br />Hurricane Ike. The project is expected to be completed by July 2009. <br />*Super 8 Motel is proposed at Hwy 146, adjacent to Little Cedar Bayou. <br />*LPISD has submitted plans to construct a Technology Center at Baker Jr. High. <br />*San Jacinto College submitted plans for a proposed Day Care facility open to the public. <br /> <br />9. COMMISION COMMENTS <br /> <br />There were no comments from the Commission. <br />
