<br />City of La Porte <br />Wrecker Committee <br /> <br />Minutes of August 25,2009 <br /> <br />Committee Members Present: Tim Tietjens, Planning Director (designated representative of the City <br />Manager); Martha Gillett, City Secretary; and Lt. Gary Rice (designated <br />representative of the Police Chief) <br /> <br />Staff Members Present: <br /> <br />Clark Askins, Assistant City Attorney; Debbie Wilmore, Deputy Building <br />Official; and Peggy Lee, Office Coordinator <br /> <br />1. Call to order. <br /> <br />Meeting called to order by Chairman Tim Tietjens at 2:00 p.m. <br /> <br />2. Roll call of members. <br /> <br />All members were present. <br /> <br />3. Consider approval of July 7,2009, meeting minutes. <br /> <br />Motion by Lt. Gary Rice to approve the Minutes of July 7, 2009. Second by Martha Gillett. The <br />motion carried with all in favor; Minutes approved as presented. <br /> <br />4. Conduct public hearing to receive input on a request by RBEX, Inc. dba Apple Towing Co. for <br />issuance of an emergency heavy duty auto wrecker permit, under section 78-297 of the La Porte <br />Code of Ordinances. <br /> <br />A. Open public hearing. <br /> <br />The Chairman opened the public hearing at 2:04 p.m. <br /> <br />B. Staff comments. <br /> <br />Building Official, Debbie Wilmore, noted staff's concern with the applicant's <br />arrangements to utilize DeWalt Towing's yard for storage, given past problems with <br />overflow of stored vehicles at that location. <br /> <br />C. Public comments. <br /> <br />Mike Scully, President of Apple Towing (RBEX, Inc.) addressed the Committee. Mr. <br />Scully informed the Committee that his company is in the final stage of negotiations to <br />purchase the De Walt Towing property.
