b. Ladder trucks: 25 years; and <br />c. Command vehicles: 10 years. <br />5) Continue Fire Department participation in the City's plan review process <br />so that water supply and other emergency response considerations are <br />incorporated into plans and plats for new development /redevelopment. <br />6) Continue Fire Marshal participation in the City's Building Plan Review <br />process and on -site inspections so that fire and life safety codes are <br />incorporated into construction plans and verified compliant during post - <br />construction inspections. <br />7) Adequately fund training opportunities for fire personnel to improve <br />personal skills and departmental capabilities. Utilize the new Fire <br />Training Officer to expand cost - effective in -house training capabilities. <br />8) Adequately support the Fire Department's efforts to convey the message <br />of fire prevention through programs such as CPR, first aid training, and <br />fire safety related school events. <br />9) Continue to monitor fire and building codes to determine if a newer <br />addition would achieve better life safety protection for the City. <br />10) Continue to conduct fire safety inspections of all businesses and public <br />facilities to ensure compliance with fire and life safety code <br />requirements. <br />11) Continue to prepare and publicly disseminate the La Porte Fire Code <br />Construction and Development Guide. <br />12) Continue to maintain and keep up -to -date the Fire Department and Fire <br />Marshal's pages on the overall City's Website. <br />GOAL 7: Provide for the ongoing needs of the City's Emergency Medical <br />Services (EMS) Department to ensure adequate protection of the <br />population. <br />Actions and Initiatives <br />1) Periodically review the EMS Department's personnel needs and hire <br />additional staff to accommodate increased calls for service concurrent <br />with population growth. This could include adding an additional Captain <br />to relieve the Assistant EMS Chief from being a shift commander. This <br />would allow the Assistant EMS Chief to dedicate more time developing <br />overall strategies to improve the operation of the EMS Department. <br />2) Work in coordination with the Police and Fire Departments to add a third <br />dispatcher to the E -911 call center. <br />3) Add a third 24/7 Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) ambulance to each <br />shift to ensure adequate emergency life support service protection for <br />the citizens and visitors of La Porte. <br />4) Adequately support the EMS Department's efforts to improve the health <br />and safety of the community through such programs as the Childhood <br />Immunization Program, Child Safety Seat Inspection Program, Shattered <br />Dreams (i.e., bi- annual DWI awareness program for high school juniors), <br />"Vial of Life" Program (documentation and storage of medical <br />information in homes), as well as cyclist training (in coordination with <br />A COMMUNIT — Y VISION FOR 1A PORTE, TEXAS - 2010 UPDATE <br />
