This is <br />particularly important due to the City's recent efforts to expand and <br />interconnect the trail system. Consider adding a periodic presence on <br />the City's overall trail system during non - event, peak summer days. <br />6) Continue to pursue joint partnerships with the La Porte Independent <br />School District, Galveston County Immunization Coalition, and Texas <br />Department of State Health Services to provide cost effective <br />educational and training programs to the community. <br />GOAL 8: Maximize public safety and protection of citizens during and affim <br />natural or man-made disasters. <br />Actions and Initiatives <br />1) Routinely update the Basic Emergency and Annex Q Plans to ensure that <br />they reflect changed conditions (the last update was posted 6/19/09) <br />and adequate resources in place for effective emergency response under <br />various scenarios. <br />2) Continue to coordinate with Harris County and other local jurisdictions <br />to promote better regional evacuation planning. <br />3) Ensure adequate City representation on the Local Emergency Planning <br />Committee (LEPC) so that the City's priorities are addressed and that <br />overall progress and effectiveness is routinely evaluated. <br />4) Continue to encourage and participate in regular and challenging <br />simulated emergency drills in coordination with the LEPC and other <br />appropriate entities to ensure a high level of readiness and to evaluate <br />the adequacy of emergency response plans. <br />5) Continue to coordinate closely with the LEPC to maintain an up -to -date <br />list of hazardous waste handlers and other facilities that could <br />experience toxic material releases or other dangerous situations during <br />severe weather. <br />6) In coordination with the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and <br />LEPC, continue to maintain or expand emergency notification capabilities <br />to ensure citizen safety during and after natural and man -made <br />emergencies. This includes supporting the emergency siren system, <br />Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER Line) telephone <br />system, Connect -CTY, Radio Station AM 830, and the system alert <br />beacons, among others. <br />7) Continue City support for OEM and LEPC school and community <br />outreach programs, e.g., Hurricane Awareness Week, Storm Surge <br />Markers, Shelter -in -Place signs in parks, neighborhoods, and along roads; <br />and the emergency preparedness guides, as well as special events, such <br />A COMMUNITY VISI N FOR LA RTE, TEXAS -2010 UPDATE. <br />
