updated and making sure each device has the required virtual private network (VPN) <br />client installed. By installing only the approved VPN client the end user is free to use <br />any available Wi-Fi in order to access City of La Porte data and resources. Without the <br />VPN the end user will not have any access to secured data other than there email and <br />personal files. By using a VPN and allowing end users to use any public Wi-Fi this <br />removes the need to purchase a MiFi device for every employee. <br /> <br />The requested purchase of the 145 laptops is an approved reimbursement through the <br />Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF). The Office of Emergency Management has verified, if <br />the purchase is approved by City Council the funds will be reimbursed back into the <br />General Fund. Staff has received three (3) written quotes (attached) from: <br /> Dell $210,975 <br /> Shi Government Solutions $214,600 <br /> Zones $240,410 <br />We would like to purchase the Laptops directly from Dell at a cost of $184,875 and <br />purchase the docking stations from Zones at a cost of $24,650. This will make the total <br />cost of both the laptops and docking stations $209,525. <br /> <br />Once the 145 desktops are replaced staff intend to repurpose the desktops. After a <br />thorough inspections and any needed upgrades are performed, staff will work with the <br />Parks & Recreation Department to deploy the desktops to all the recreation centers, <br />which can be utilized by all La Porte residents. <br /> <br />Since this purchase exceeds $50,000, staff is recommending City Council approve the <br />purchase of 145 laptops from Dell to replace desktops to provide for work efficiencies <br />in an amount of $209,525. <br />ACTION REQUIRED BY CITY COUNCIL <br />Consider, discuss and possibly approve or deny the purchase of 145 laptops <br />with docking stations from Dell, which will be used for the replacement of 145 <br />desktop computers. <br />Approved for the City Council meeting agenda <br /> <br />Corby D.
