" .~
" -

.

6'

---

"2' 'l0\ ,~~ .
p~~

February 27, 1988

RUMORS/FACTS

1. If. you vote YES the City of Pasadena can annex BayMUD.

(a) The City of Pasadena would have to be on the ballot.
Only the City of La Porte will be on the ballot.

(b) The city BOUNDARIES of Pasadena are not adjacent
to BayMUD. The law states that the "home rule" city
and the Utility District must have adjacent boundaries.

2. If annexed by La Porte, the PRIVATELY OWNED (by the civic
association/home owners association of each subdivision)
pools, parks, and piers will be taken over by the City and
opened to the public.

(a) La Porte would only annex the public areas that are
within the BayMUD boundaries. Privately owned
property will remain private. Taxes', maintenance,
operating costs of the pools, parks, and piers must
be paid by the private owners.

3~ If annexed, the street lighting now paid by the home owners
" will be paid by the City.

(a) Street maintenance, street lighting, ditch cleaning
will be paid by the City. Vacant lots must be kept
clean. If the owner does not keep the lot clean the
City can order this done and charge the owner.

~. If you require an ambulance the La Porte machine is so old
and decrepit that you may not get to the hospital.

(a) La Porte has THREE ambulances ready to go at all times.
If all three are on calls, a mutual ai~ agreement will
bring in one from the outside. All ambulances are
staffed with paid, medically trained, employees.

5. Your taxes will be higher in La Porte.

(a) Taxes are higher in La Porte ($0.66/$100) than in
BayMUD ($0.378/$100). Remember that taxes in BayMUD
and La Porte do not include garbage pickup, water and
sewer costs.

If you own a $100,000 home (tax valuation) the cost of
taxes, garbage, water and sewer is a toss up--about the
same in both areas, If your home is valued at LESS than
$100,000, you SAVE MONEY by living in La Porte.

6. Shady River will no longer have "backdoor" garbage pick up.

/ 31
